There is lots of bird life in Ethiopia.

The most interesting of the birds for me was the Lammergeier (Gypaetus barbatus, german: Bartgeier, french: Gypaète barbu). They eat bone marrow. In order to get it, they wait till the other vultures have cleaned a carcass and only the bones are left. They then grab one of the larger bones and fly over rocks. They drop the bone onto a rock to crack it. When the bone cracks, they can get to the bone marrow. I watched them do that several times, it was fascinating to see.

There are many bird species that are endemic to Ethiopia, for instance the Blue-winged Goose (Cyanochen cyanoptera, german: Blauflügelgans, french: Ouette à ailes bleues), Rouget's Rail (Rougetius rougetii, french: Râle de Rouget), Wattled Ibis (Bostrychia carunculata, german: Klunkeribis, french: Ibis caronculé), Thick-billed Raven (Corvus crassirostris, german: Erzrabe, french: Corbeau corbivau), Spot-breasted Lapwing (Vanellus melanocephalus, french: Vanneau d'Abyssinie).
